NOLS SW Staff at BEYOND Tucson

NOLS Southwest interns and assistant director Nick Cross represented NOLS on the 5th of January at BEYOND Tucson, a memorial event started by the family of Gabe Zimmerman who was killed during the shootings at Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords' "Congress on Your Corner" two years ago. In remembrance of those lost, the BEYOND event hopes to remind community members to keep those we love close, challenge ourselves, and embrace life and the outdoors.

Making Compost Happen!

NOLS Southwest is now the proud proprietor of a state of the art compost bin designed and built by our very own Andrew Megas-Russell! The three-compartment system will now accommodate all of the food waste produced by the branch and provide us with nutrient rich compost for our vegetable and flower gardens. Way to go Andrew!

Solar in the Southwest

NOLS Southwest has just completed the installation of a 64-panel solar array. The 19.7-kW system, which was installed by local Tucson company, Technicians For Sustainability, sits atop the ranch house and in-town offices. While the project does not dethrone the Noble for the title of largest solar array at NOLS, it will supply between 70 and 80 percent of the branch’s energy demands annually, approximately 37,000 kWh.

Lending a Hand in Our Southwest Community

On Thursday April 14th branch staff at NOLS Southwest spent the day volunteering for Habitat for Humanity Tucson. As the morning sun rose over Reddington Pass ten eager staff piled into a van and drove to the build site in west Tucson where they met Mark the building site manager. He gave a little background info on the Tucson branch of Habitat, then handed out paint brushes and put the staff to work.

Southwest Semester Students Give Back
